Right to Information and Protection of Privacy Act

The Right to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (RTIPPA) of New Brunswick gives individuals the right to access public records of the Village de Memramcook. This includes municipal council decisions and other public documents related to Village business.

Individuals also have the right to access records containing their own personal information and to request corrections if that information is inaccurate.

Overview

Under the Right to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (RTIPPA) of New Brunswick, individuals have the right to:

• request and receive information related to the public business of the Village de Memramcook;
• access records that contain personal information about themselves;
• and request corrections to personal information that is inaccurate.

Who Can Apply

Any person may submit a request under RTIPPA. A “record” may include written, photographed, recorded, or electronically stored information. Public business refers to any activity or function carried out by a public body. Certain types of information (as outlined in sections 17–33 of RTIPPA) are exempt from disclosure.

RTIPPA does not replace normal access to information that is already available to the public (for example, information posted on the Village’s website).

How to Make a Request

Many documents and decisions are already accessible through the Village de Memramcook website or by contacting municipal staff directly by phone or email. We encourage you to begin with these informal options.

If the information is not routinely available, you may file a formal Right to Information request with the Clerk’s Office.

• Requests are generally made in writing using the official form, though oral requests are accepted from individuals who are unable to complete a written request due to language or disability.
• If you are making a request on behalf of another person, you must provide written authorization (such as a signed letter or Power of Attorney).
